Geary should allow user to specify a signature to be appended to each sent message.

---- Reported by geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2012-06-26 11:10:00 -0700 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 5458 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/5458 Searchable id: yorba-bug-5458 Original author: Matthew Pirocchi Original description: Some users add a signature block (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signature_block) all of their messages. Geary should allow the user to specify this message, and automatically append it to each outgoing message. Related issues: related to geary - Feature #7471: Template support (Open) duplicated by geary - Feature #7607: Add Possibility of automatically adding signature in email (Duplicate) ---- Additional Comments From geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2013-10-18 23:38:00 -0700 ---- ### History #### #1 Updated by Sebastian - about 1 year ago This keeps me from using it all day (Well, this and a Calendar would make me switch from Evolution to Geary) #### #2 Updated by Jim Nelson 10 months ago * **Category** set to _composer_ * **Priority** changed from _Normal_ to _High_ * **Target version** set to _0.3.0_ We've received some requests for this -- let's bump this up and see if we can do this in 0.3. #### #3 Updated by Jim Nelson 9 months ago * **Tracker** changed from _Bug_ to _Feature_ * **Target version** changed from _0.3.0_ to _0.4.0_ #### #4 Updated by Christoph Fischer 8 months ago Please, if you implement this, plan for multiple signatures (to be chosen at compose time) from the beginning. #### #5 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago * **Target version** changed from _0.4.0_ to _0.5.0_ #### #6 Updated by Joey 4712 8 months ago * **File** 0001-Added-simple-loading-of-signature.html-and-template.patch added I understand that this is not trivial if you do it right: It means allowing to add multiple signatures in the settings, building an html signature editor, ... and so this has to wait for 0.5. Because this is a must-have-feature for me, I coded a simple quick & dirty solution for this myself. I added a bit of code to composer-window.vala which will load a signature from ~/.local/share/geary/signature.html and a email template from ~/.local/share/geary/template.html if these files exist. Patch is attached for those who want to use it until a real solution will be available on 0.5. #### #7 Updated by Jim Nelson 8 months ago Thanks Joey! Obviously this isn't sufficient for us to take now, but as you said, people out there might want to try it for their own needs. #### #8 Updated by Javier Antonio Nisa Avila about 1 month ago +1 if necessary #### #9 Updated by Kyle Marek-Spartz about 1 month ago Why not use the ~/.signature file? #### #10 Updated by Jim Nelson about 1 month ago That's ... not a bad idea! I wonder if we're going to want to allow HTML formatting in a signature, however. That may require a separate file. (.signature.html?) #### #11 Updated by Kyle Marek-Spartz about 1 month ago That sounds reasonable to me. #### #12 Updated by Sebastian - about 1 month ago Hi, i just wanted to add that usually email clients may allow to specify a different signature _per account_ (i, for example, have my private mail account and work mail account in Evolution). How about ~/.signature is used as default value in the geary signature editor but the signature is stored in ~/.local/share/geary//signature[.html] ?
